Description

Lease ref for 3170 Odocoileus from :iconsoulswitch: because I've stolen him for a mini-story. Don't hate me :'T

Introduction Story
---------------------
There was no reason for him to be there. No reason. This place had nothing that he wanted, nothing that he needed. And it was unnecessarily hot. Really hot. Southern California was known for its temperate climate but it wasn’t temperate, it was just hot. Angrily hot. It took a few seconds for the large black stallion to muster up the energy it took to glare at the trailer that had brought him to this god-forsaken land. It didn’t seem phased. The stallion, known to most as Odocoileus or Ode, snorted in frustration. His new handler, a young woman by the name of Rain, patted his neck absent mindedly. Ode glared some more. She was patronizing him. Here he was, at the prime age of five, a prodigy. And he has receiving remedial classes.
It was all Rosey’s fault. If she hadn’t gone and convinced him it was a good idea to eat all that grain. It wasn’t his fault that Alex hadn’t secured the grain bin correctly. Or that he’d had a terrible stomach ache afterward. Now they were saying he needed some proper discipline. “Manners”. Manners, of all things. They’d sent him here for that.
And now his head was itchy, or rather his horns were. The small golden nubs that served as his horns were a pain to have most of the time. They were still growing in so the itched almost constantly. And they snagged on everything; his hair, other people’s hair, his bridle, bonnets, halters. Ode leaned down to rub his head against Rain. She pushed his head away. The horse tried again, and again Rain pushed him away. The cycle repeated itself for a few minutes, as Rain waited for SFR’s resident veterinarian to show up to give Ode his inspection. Tarynn appeared a good five minutes later, Cece and Evan in tow. Rain stepped aside as the two women inspected her charge, while Evan watched from a distance. By this point Ode had lost interest in glaring, instead choosing to lean heavily against Rain and dozing.
"All good. Odocoileus is good to go!" Tarynn chirped, giving him a pat on the neck before she headed back inside with the others. Ode sighed dramatically as Rain nudged him to a walk.
It was a short walk to the small barn that was to be his home for the next month. Smooth rock, worn down over the years to a pale gray, lined the path up to the entrance. The stalls inside were spacious, each private runs attached to each. A bed of soft shavings covered the stall floors. Two, no three, curious heads popped over the rails to watch as the fawn stallion strolled down the aisle to one of the stalls on the far left. From where he was, Ode could see that two of them were mares and the third a yearling. Their curious gaze didn't waver as he continued to his stall. Reaching it, Rain unclipped Ode's halter, leaving him to explore his new home. The sweet scent of grain filled the air; lunch time. A mound of fresh hay was piled next to his grain bin. Ode munched happily for the next few minutes before turning to explore some more.
The door to the run was open. Ode popped his head outside. He blinked as his eyes tried to readjust to the bright sunlight. The oppressive heat returned with it. Ode groaned and turned back inside. He could explore later.
